Church of St. Jerome
At the site of the present church of St. Jerome was built church before the 15th century, but it was burned in the warpath of the Turks at Vienna.
That first church was probably made of wood. Then the Counts of Celje built the Church, which was destroyed in the earthquake of 1738. Today's Church was built from 1738 to 1749. Along with the church, the Pauline monastery was built. In 1761, the bell towers were added, and nine years before that, in 1752, the singing part (choir) was added.
The church is known for its two bell towers which is specific because two bell towers are usually built on cathedrals. The floor plan of the church is almost identical to the famous Basilica of St. Peter in Rome. The greatest value of the church is that during the 18th century the famous fresco painter Ivan Ranger painted part of the sanctuary. The church is named after St. Jerome, a translator of the Bible into Latin, who was born right here in Štrigova.

Lower Town Church and Franciscan monastery
The most valuable monument of Nagykanizsa is the Lower Town Church, originally called the Parish Church of St. Joseph, which was built from the ruins of the former castle of our town for the Franciscan monks between 1702 and 1714
The exterior simplicity of the building does not at all reflect the interior, which shows an exterior Baroque look. The main and auxiliary design of the church has reliefs on the walls and the dome of the sanctuary. Count Lajos Batthyány ordered the pulpit for the main altar painting, which was painted around 1770. Various baroque wooden statues and cabinets can be admired in the church. In its immediate vicinity is the two-storey Franciscan monastery, which was already a boys' college and library in terms of its function, and is now owned by the Franciscans again.
